South Sudan accommodates approximately 2 million internally displaced people.
Internally Displaced, in other words, are internal refugees. People who have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict. And this number does not consider those who have fled South Sudan all together to refugee camps across the borders.
The number is frightening, and gives an indication of the crisis levels in the East African county - and also for its neighbours who attempt to accommodate.
Coupled with the shortage of food and medical assistance around the country, these numbers put South Sudan in a humanitarian crisis with regions reportedly on the brink of famine.
I am hoping that we can help in our way - but frankly ahead of my trip on Monday I am nervous for what awaits.
